Project Overview

Deliverables: WebApp Design (ongoing features)
My Role: UX Designer
Responsibilities: Wireframing, Prototyping

Summary:
The Metasys Performance Verification Tool is an easy-to-use software program that scans a Metasys system for planned service opportunities and reports its findings. The information available in the reports helps service technicians and installation teams understand your Controls needs to deliver proactive, outcome-based service.

When I arrived at Johnson Controls, I was put on PVT as my primary project, where I was required to take the existing UI and design the implementation of new features as per the requirements provided to me.

The Problem

There were several “problems” that needed to be solved when deciding how a user would access certain functionalities. A lot of data is constantly being displayed so there needed to be a simple approach for each solution to make it easy to get to.

Some of these features included how to show notifications, both on the dashboard when you enter PVT. Designing how to show preferences, how to merge site settings together, how to resolve issues pertaining to existing sites were all problems that needed to be addressed.

The Goal

Create a cohesive user experience that includes an easy to follow flow of site functionalities, such as scanning, merging, reporting assessments, and much more.

Designing the App

Throughout the design process, I collaborated with developers, PMs and other UX designers to ensure that the web application met the unique needs of the several roles that used the application.

Takeaways

What I learned:
As stated before, this was my first project while working at JCI. I had absolutely no domain knowledge of anything, but over time I learned about PVT makes it easy to manage sites, scanning them in order to find things that may need to be adjusted and creating site assessments or reports to share with others.
